Description of Benzoin Pourable

Origin: U.K. Benzoin is not an essential oil. This oil is collected in a solid form and is thinned using di propylene glycol. Steam distilled. Base note.

Benzoin Pourable is the active ingredient in "Friars Balsam". It is used as an inhalation for coughs and loss of voice, and may also help to heal chapped and cracked hands when added to a base cream.

Often used in medicines/chest balms to treat coughs and colds or to aid lung and sinus ailments, although most commonly used in lotions to soothe red, irritable, itchy skin. Well known as a sedative, this oil is comforting and uplifting with a faint vanilla scent. It is also used as a preservative in oils.

Specific Cautions for Benzoin Pourable

Avoid during pregnancy. Is a well documented sensitizer. Use with caution, especially in the bath.
