There are seven major chakras or energy points located within our physical bodies. These are commonly referred to as the base, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown. The eighth chakra (thymus) is a secondary chakra, but one that we feel will be receiving a great deal more attention in the new age to come. The chakras run vertically along our spinal column. Each point is a spinning vortex that has its own field of energy and influence on the body.

Chakras are linked together by energy channels, and draw upon the energy of the earth to enter our bodies. The earth"s raw energy is translated into a subtler, more useable form. The spinning vortexes are the linking mechanism between our physical body, our auric field and the universe. Through creative will and focus, we can tap into this energy to promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing and balancing.

Because each chakra is connected to internal organs and emotional issues, daily stress can cause emotional and physical disease. Energy work (through Reiki or relaxation techniques), can realign the chakras and clean out the aura to help relieve stress, thereby aiding in the healing of emotional and physical disease. Energy work is an excellent compliment to conventional medicine, but should never be used as a replacement.

Chakra Blends

Green Valley Aromatherapy, in partnership with a chakra healer, created eight essential oil blends to match each of the chakras:

Suggested Meditation to Clear Chakras:

With shoes off, in a quiet and secure place, sit comfortably on the floor, a rug or a chair. Apply a small circle of chakra anointment in preferred method (see below). Close your eyes and begin slow, deep breathing. Focus your mind and body on total relaxation.

Mentally focus on your Base or Root chakra. Visualize a ball of warm, white, cleansing light emanating from the earth”s center, filling your Root chakra with clear, warm energy. Pull the energy into your Root chakra, filling it. Repeat 8 times. Now visualize the cleansing light moving into your second chakra, the Sacral chakra. Allow the light to fill, warm and clear. Repeat 8 times. Continue drawing up energy through the chakra series, ending with the Crown. Relax, breathe deeply and return to your private surroundings when ready.

Suggested ways to use Chakra Blends:

  • Add chakra essential oil blend to a carrier oil and use for massage.
  • Drop into a warm bath (if using blend pure, use 6-8 drops MAX).
  • Add to your diffuser.
  • Add to a tissue and carry it with you throughout your day.
